War
3-8-03

There's a lot of stuff going on out there, a lot of stuff that is easy to ignore when you are a writer and spend your time in worlds outside of reality.  However, the real world still exists, and people are talking about it...there's no way around it.  Even one of my writers' groups has been overrun with discussions of impending war.  So now I'm going to put in my two cents.  You can disagree with me, you can even hate me, but part of this country is freedom of speech so that's what I'm going to exercise tonight.

War sucks.  Those two words just about sums it all up.  War is something I don't want.  I really don't know anyone who does want it.  But it seems that some people have this crazy idea that just because someone thinks we ought to go to war, that means they are for war.  That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.  No one wants war.  No one wants people to die.  But after hearing all the arguments for and against going to war, I personally believe that going to war is the best thing right now.  Why?  Because there is a dictator out there who hates America and could be building a lot of weapons, including biological weapons, and he could very well use those weapons against us.  This isn't a new thing.  It's just been ignored for so many years (eight, to be exact) that America kinda forgot about him and all the nasty things he's been up to.  And unless someone out there who is protesting can come up with a better idea of how to solve the problem, then I will continue to support the decision to go to war and protect the world from this dictator.  So far, I have not heard one logical solution to the problem.

The previous paragraph is debatable.  There are bounds to be lots of people who disagree with me.  That's their right.  I'm only stating my conclusions based on listening to the evidence presented to the world on television and in the newspapers.  But here's the one thing that I believe is completely closed for argument:  we need to support our troops.  They are over there in a very dangerous situation.  Just like you got up this morning and reported to your office and did what your boss told you, so did they.  See, they are doing their job.  And their job happens to be to protect us.  So it doesn't matter one bit whether we agree with the war.  Say what you want, wave your signs around, write your Congressmen, and argue around the water cooler, but our military deserves our wholehearted support.  Their families deserve our wholehearted support.  So let's support them and thank God every day that we live in a country where we can freely post our opinions all over the Internet...just remember that our military made that possible.
