| Every writer finds their inspiration in something. For me, it has always been music. Ive played piano since five-years old, spent seven years in choir, currently learning how to play guitar, and even did a trial run on the violin. Now I mostly sing along to the car radio, although I plan on trying out my showers acoustics soon. Music was infused in my blood at a very early age, and it continues to drive my soul today. Music is my second passion in life, falling immediately behind writing. I tend to use music a lot in my writing, whether it is a character named after one of my favorite musicians (Underground), poems encorporating the force of music into everyday life (patience), or the simple metaphor of nature's percussion mixed in with a haunting melody (False Security). I believe music is a lot like books: each song tells a story, with the lyrics being the dialogue and the instruments acting as the flowing narrative. As a writer, I cant help but imagine about the characters in the song, about their lives before and after the story we hear. In my quest to bring my stories to life, I search for music that suits my characters, music that seems to have been written for them. It is these songs that play while I create my own symphony of words. They will forever remind me of the characters, and even specific scenes, which they inspired. I currently have a playlist of over 125 songs used solely for writing. The following is only a partial listing of this music and which books were written to them. |
